TRUTH AND JUSTICE (2019)
Period drama, 150 min
Director and writer: Tanel Toom

Estonia, 1872. The uncompromising new owner of Robber’s Rise must battle with hard work, his spiteful neighbor and with his own family and beliefs to transform the poor land into a flourishing farm of his dreams – to bring truth and justice to a godforsaken place.

An epic story about two rival, neighbouring landholders: the upright Andres, who tries to obey the law and live by the book of God, and spiteful trickster Pearu, who has his own notion of right and wrong, and who is seemingly placed in Andres’ life to test his patience and integrity. The film is an adaptation of the 1926 book by Anton Hansen Tammsaare, often cited as the most important Estonian literary work. Premiering in February 2019, the film broke all the box-office records in Estonia and quickly became the most watched film in the country.
